This expression literally means 'I don't know what', something that you cannot define.

What is French Style? I do believe it is not about fashion but more about style, enhancing your uniqueness.

HOW THE FRENCH GOT THEIR STRIPES

If you are interested in French fashion and culture, you have probably wondered why the striped sailor’s shirt, called a marinière in French, became such an emblematic symbol of French fashion.

The marinière has become a timeless top that every French woman has in her wardrobe.

THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL'S LOOK LIKE A FRENCH STAR

Here we go. The 70th Cannes Film Festival has begun. A glamorous, magical event, forget classicism, discretion and normality, make space for breathtaking high-heels, some glitter… the fashion is to be over sublime, over “magnifique” and we must not forget the less is more for the Parisienne look.

We all dream of playing the stars, walking up the stairs on the red carpet, shining all night long, being photographed at our best. Spotlight on chic… work on your style, you will be guaranteed success.

WOULD COCO CHANEL TAKE SELFIES?

This question occurred to me when I was talking with a fashion designer friend Susan Dimasi of MATERIALBYPRODUCT about her future campaign.

I previously introduced Susan as a fashion designer and real lover and admirer of Chanel when I wrote about participating in her selfie campaign. Selfies have become a big phenomenon and why can’t we use this selfie fashion to introduce a collection.

And suddenly we were wondering what Coco Chanel would think about social media? Would have she created her hashtag #Cocoandfabulous or #forgetthehashtagIamCoco? Would have she tweeted her new collection? Or would have she been more adventurous and started a blog by sharing her thoughts about all the fashion faux-pas she encounters?

MAKE A DIFFERENCE, OWN YOUR UNIQUE STYLE

Nowadays, we are constantly bombarded by all types of advertising and marketing that try to convince us what is the best for us: from what we have to eat to be healthy, where we have to go out to be trendy to how to dress to make sure we are in the frontline of fashion. However, I don’t know about you, but I am gradually feeling more oppressed by this desire to standardise people, to make me look like Madame Tout le Monde (Madame everyone) without even considering what I like, my personality or my current cravings.

FRENCH YOURSELF WITH ACCESSORIES

“I can recognise a French woman the way she wears her scarf”. How I was amazed! Here is the thought of one of my “French stalker” friends (I love to call her like that as she follows all things French and j’adore).

What made me think about the way French women wear accessories. Do we only rely on an accessory to build our effortless chic? And does it contribute to this je ne sais quoi?

FROM THE SIDEWALK TO CATWALK

Croissant, “marinière”, French songs… no doubt, I was in the right place, waiting for the press conference. I took a chair, impatient to hear from one of the most inspiring and visionary French designers.

Wow! Surprise, I couldn’t believe it, he was just there, sit in front of me, smiling and putting a large smile on my face.

A LITTLE BLACK DRESS IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA

A cocktail, a dinner, an important meeting, a date and maybe love at first sight, another day of “nothing to wear” or a party on one of your trips (maybe Canada? wink) and you still don’t know what to wear? Keep in mind just one thing: the-little-black-dress-is-and-will-always-be-très chic. We all have a little black dress, an essential in our wardrobe and if not, it’s certainly time for you to go shopping. It is the wardrobe “must have”.

A PARISIAN WOMAN OF STYLE

Emblem of elegance and sexiness, the French woman has disseminated an obsession and a myth throughout the world. Yet she remains an eternal mystery - one that many artists such painters or writers have attempted to define, without ever quite succeeding. Why people are so obsessed about this woman?

Let’s try to capture the "je ne sais quoi" of a Parisian woman through the eyes of a French woman living in Australia.
